What is Camtasia?

Camtasia is a video capture and editing software used to create audio and visual multimedia including recorded screencasts, webcam recordings, voice-over and audio recordings. Camtasia offers more robust editing compared to Kaltura, but may require purchasing a license key and does not integrate directly into Moodle.

What Can You Use it For?

Camtasia can be used for recording and editing educational videos, and includes the following features:

  • Capture your screen, webcam, and microphone simultaneously. Also integrates directly with PowerPoint to easily record with your presentation slides.
  • Import, manage, and edit a variety of multimedia
  • Add a wide variety of annotations, animations, transitions, behaviours, audio/visual effects, and interactive quizzes. Note: Camtasia’s interactive quiz feature is not compliant with FIPPA, as it is known to collect and store data outside of Canada. For adding interactive quizzes to your videos, we recommend using the Kaltura Quiz tool.
  • A robust audio and video editor using a timeline interface to easily stack and edit video, audio, and annotative features.
  • Export your video to a variety of file types that can then be uploaded into your course Moodle or WordPress site.

How Can You Access it?

Camtasia is a desktop application, meaning it will download to your computer. Refer to Camtasia’s system requirements for further information.
